Heretic by Bernard Cornwell
3.0
Heretic was a let down after the previous two books in the series.
I enjoyed the previous two books because the story placed the characters in the orbit of battles and decisions made during the struggle of the Hundred Years War. It was interesting to read about battle and the dynamics of that conflict, whether at key battles or in smaller, less well-known ones.
However, this book veers off into its own story which was decidedly less interesting than the actual events of the Hundreds Years War. There was less about bowmen, less about battle and siege strategy, and more about running away with pretty girls and looking for the Holy Grail which I know will not have any sort of real bearing in history.
I also don’t like the direction taken with some of my favourite characters from the previous books.
Overall it was still a fun and engaging read, but it did not have the same qualities that I loved so much from the previous books.
