The Borgias: Power and Depravity in Renaissance Italy by Paul Strathern

3.0

An enjoyable read and accessible history, though it doesn’t shed much new light on the subject. Most of Strathern’s analysis comes directly from other, more popular Borgia biographers. He also had an odd habit of skating by major events (the most glaring example being Alexander VI’s conclave) for reasons I can't quite grasp. Like with his Medici biography, Strathern tended to pay too much attention to contemporaneous gossip.
