Heavy: An American Memoir by Kiese Laymon

challenging emotional reflective tense medium-paced

Genuinely one of the greatest books I’ve read. The deliberate and seamless flow… the most impactful prose, reinforced diction. It all comes together in a sad irony. There is no feel-good, only an honest reckoning, no hiding behind a one-dimensional victimhood, that is so characteristic of memoirs—why I especially love that the subtitle is ironically “An American Memoir”.
