Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons

4.0

Probably I rounded up to the fourth star mainly because of Lynne Truss’s introduction, which is so cute and frames things excellently. (And keeping in my habit, I paged back to read it just after finishing the book, so it had staying power.) She convinced me to part as friends, in the spots where the book itself didn’t, with its unanswered questions and too-broad types and 90 year old cringe moments. The places where this book is so funny, it’s basically sharpening knives, and it’s radiant. With a twist of concern underneath, because we do all want something to change.
