In this 4th and final book of the Midnight Manor we meet Obsidian (Sid) and he is by far the darkest, most complex brother of the four men. Sid has been going through a lot and an unfortunate surfing accident has Ariana saving his life. Although Sid never gets to meet or thank Ariana because she quickly leaves because her family is involved in a lot of shady business. Ariana’s father looking for his final big score lands the family in a really bad situation and although Ariana had stopped scamming people she now has no choice or someone will kill her, her brother and her father. Fortunately for her Sid’s brothers have decided he needs an assistant to help and watch him because he hasn’t been acting right for a long time. So Ariana is set up to live in Midnight Manor as Sid’s assistant and of course the attraction is too much for them to resist.
I have read all four books in this series and have enjoyed all of them. Sid was the character I was most interested in reading about since he was very mysterious in the previous books, he was surly, mean spirited and evasive. I enjoyed learning about his kinks and finding out why he is so tortured. Ariana was a great partner for him because she had her own issues in life. There one or two things that didn’t seem right in this book and the one that really irritated me was that Ariana desperately needs a lot of money to save her family’s life and the way she goes about this is taking small objects one at a time. Taking one item at a time to sell would take her almost a year to pay off the debt. I wish they had thought of something else more creative like forging a check she’s his assistant. In an otherwise phenomenal series that one was my one gripe. This was great series using twisted fairy tales as the premise for each book.
