Once again, the magic system is a shining part of this story. The new additions we get through Ravens' promotion were interesting and added even more to her inner battle to keep control. I enjoyed the training montages we got with Anton.

I love rose, the way she's written means she bounces perfectly off our main character. Their back and forth gives moments of lightness in between the darker plot points. Khaven brings in a softer side for khamari and opens the door for the romance to slip back in. It definitely takes a back seat in this one, though.

I really liked the first 60% of the book. I was, unfortunately, a little lost when the gods entered the plot during a little trip. It took me out of the vampire/slayer dynamic i was loving, especially when it occurs in a moment where their plan has gone wrong.

I'm not sure how many books are planned for the series, definitely at least one more given the cliffhanger in this one. I'm hoping it will go back to the dynamic of book 1, I feel like there's a good opportunity for a big emotional impact in the next one, too.

I received an advance review copy of this book, and this review represents my honest opinion. Thank you to netgalley, the author, and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book.
