Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver

5.0

"This is the best book I'll never reread."
The feeling started hitting me about halfway through that this kids journey is just very sad and intense. I'm glad for his salvation, something he was able to conquer, but he really did have to fight tooth and nail to get there.
This was my first time reading one of Barbara Kingsolvers books and I have to say her writing style did take me some time to get used to (I found myself rereading or not fully understanding some of the phrasings).
Man, what a heavy book of topics but I'm glad someone took the time and energy to discuss them.
My only critique is that it seems like the author was hinting that weed is a gateway drug which I don't fully believe is the case, and she basically killed off so many druggie kids just to pull the point that drugs are bad. Also, I didn't fully understand the whole chapter of Demon walking up the mountain trail where it finally dawned on him to get help.

To end though, I am really happy to have read this book and it was a pure rollercoaster of a journey.
