I'm still processing the last 1/4 of the book, but holy crap. I didn't see any of that coming. I read this aloud with my twins and we kept trying to guess at what was going to happen. We didn't get anywhere close to that.

If you haven't read this series yet...please do. It is so good. SO GOOD.

Update: I just finished my re-read in anticipation of The Toll...wow. It's even better the second time. There were so many little moments that I missed, hints of what was going to happen. The whole novel was great, but that last act is a masterpiece. It was so cinematic. I have heard that the series has been picked up to be adapted as a film (hopefully 3 films), and I really can't wait to see that play out on the big screen.
