This series annoys me beyond belief. Why? Because I absolutely love the plot. Especially when it’s moving. And I absolutely loathe the romance. I’ve never not wanted the MCs to be together as much as these two. The FMC is this all powerful mage who “doesn’t need no man” but also needs constant saving and literally almost dies every time she walks outside, she’s dumb as a box of rocks and has the emotional capacity of a wet paper bag. Sean is great in every way except he has no backbone when it comes to her. She does something stupid, he gets mad, has an adult conversation with her and THEN APOLOGIZES. Which would be FINE IF SHE ALSO ACTED LIKE AN ADULT. And do we even want to mention Charles??! Who fucks her over every chance he gets and she’s just all chill and “whatever” with him!!?? Her inner monologue sounds all put together but her actions contradict that at every turn. I know she has trauma and is in hiding and the whole point is healing and growth but 3 books in and she’s taken maybe 2 steps in the growth department. Probably closer to 1.5 steps if we’re being honest. If that. Aside from all my complaints, it’s easy to binge. I will probably come back to them and maybe read one in between larger series. I just personally can’t read them back to back without having violent thoughts about a fictional character.
