An excellent story with beautiful writing. I've been wanting to read this book for a decade - so since I was the actual target audience. It was everything my year old self had hoped it would be, and had I read it at the time, it would most likely have put on my mental list of favourite books, together with some other historical novels with a young, independent female lead who is thwarted by society.
