First of all, thank you so much @simonandschuster for sending me this book to read ahead of publication in exchange for my honest review. While I probably would not have picked this book up on my own, after reading it @toutonghi is on my radar as a must read author. The Refugee Ocean is Toutonghi’s debut novel. The book is beautifully written and showcases a perspective that is not commonly seen in the historical fiction genre. The story itself is heartbreaking, yet inspirational. It is told from dual timelines from multiple POVs. It follows two refugees and shows how music can link people together even in the hardest of times. I have a feeling I will be thinking about this book for a long time and highly recommend reading this book to everyone!
