A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
3.0
A Court of Thorns and Roses is the debut novel in a new series and to be honest, the first SJM book I ever read. It focuses on retelling and altering Beauty and the Beast and the ballad of Tam Lin.
The main character, Feyre seemed so cold at the start of the book (but as the book went on, she grew softer) Feyre starts off as a huntress who takes care of her family.
I feel like a running theme with SJM is fairies, after reading House of Earth and Blood and Throne of Glass, I am certain that it is a running theme. Honestly, this book is unique since its told in the first person which NEVER HAPPENS in a SJM book.
However Feyre comes into the Not Like Other Girls trope.
However, the descriptions of settings were stunning and it was a messed up world :)
Also I love Beauty and the Beast and so I'm immediately interested in retellings.
