Voice of Life by Melanie Cellier
5.0
"Maybe in some way, we had all gained relatives rather than me standing alone between them, pulled one way and then the other." Great quote!
I love Julian, General Griffith’s eldest son! New favorite character. I like that Elena has gained more family.
The revelations that the Sekali Empire has brought are huge.
Jasper and Elena’s grandfather’s grandmother was a Sekali, from one of the two clans that seal away commonborn power. The Emperor wanted them to stay in Sekali, and he wanted Elena to seal away many commonborns, maybe in a way where she doesn’t lose her own power. He also wanted to breed her, like a mare, and experiment on her children if it didn't work with her. Gross.
Declan’s mom provided the compositions with the last of her energy that formed Elena and Jasper. So they’re kind of weirdly related. Also, he can use his energy to heal (only heal) through written compositions. And he never recovers that energy.
The Ellingtons are the traitors, which shocked me. Especially Walden. Ugh. Glad Dariela joined her friends though.
Great final battle! Very exciting. I love that the book is going along typically until about the thirty percent mark, and then goes in all kinds of unexpected, wonderful directions thereafter.
Voice of Life was an excellent conclusion to the series. I will reread it in the months and years to come. 100% worth reading. Elena and Lucas and all their friends, along with the kingdom, and general plot, grow immensely. It’s very unique, entertaining, and intriguing. I had loads of fun reading this series, and I would highly recommend it to fans of young adult fantasy. 5 stars! Also, Julian is life.

I love that he stood up for Jasper. Also, I'd love to see him get together with Saffron. The revelations that the Sekali Empire has brought are huge.

They have mages seal away commonborn power, at the cost of their own. The number they can seal depends on their own power level. Also, Kallorway and Ardann used to be one united kingdom, which is shocking.Jasper and Elena’s grandfather’s grandmother was a Sekali, from one of the two clans that seal away commonborn power. I love that Araminta used her power in a sealing ceremony. I think that it was very fitting. On a completely separate note, I'm really happy for Lucas and Elena. I like Lucielle, his older sister, and I'm glad she supported Lucas and Elena like she did at the end.Voice of Life was an excellent conclusion to the series.
