Scythe by Neal Shusterman

Absolutely incredible. Wonderfully profound, especially for a YA novel.

I love the unique writing style and formatting of this story so much, although it may not be everyone’s cup of tea.

I’ve seen some reviews for this one that claim it’s a very black & white story. That there is either good or bad characters (or their actions/thoughts) but no middle ground.

I must respectfully disagree. I can see how you might miss it if you’re not paying close attention, but those gray areas are well thought out and equally well placed, in my opinion. I also think it’s a major point of the books world-building for it to initially SEEM very black & white, but like I said, it certainly is not.

I also loved the characters so so much. The romance is not the primary focus of the story and I liked that a lot. It’s easily passed off as a love built from a friendship of circumstance. Which felt very natural to me as I read.
