Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire

4.0

"You're nobody's doorway but your own, and the only one who gets to tell you how your story ends is you."

What a lovely little book. This was darker than I expected, but still left me feeling all fuzzy inside by the end. Nancy found a family in some of the other kids while they were all just trying to find their places in a world that none of them called home.

For me, this was the perfect mix of dark elements in a fantasy story. And Seanan McGuire somehow set up a whole world (or multiple worlds I guess) in under 200 pages that I can't wait to explore more of. I really loved this and I can't wait to pick up the next one.
