The Summer She Went Missing by Chelsea Ichaso
4.0
This gives off the vibes of a teen slasher movie, BUT it is not horror and no bad guy running around slashing teenagers. Instead it is how a "good" girl from the right family becomes secretive one summer and then just vanishes. The author does a superb job of keeping the timeline moving forward while using the previous summer or two to fill in missing gaps.
Paige is the best friend and Dylan is the brother, they had just begun a summer relationship when his sister goes missing. We enter the story the following summer, their are hidden objects, dubious actions and another missing girl are added to the mystery of what happened to Audrey.
They begin their own investigation into what was Audery really doing last summer, who she was really with and why all the lies. Did I mention a substantial amount of money is missing. At first it seems as Audrey is the one causing all the turmoil and thus she disappears. Or as they learn more secrets and people come forward with new information is she a victim of a con gone wrong or did she see something or is it a predator.
As the truth begins to unfold, all the twists, turns, detours and even dead ends makes it for a high energy read with an ending I never saw coming but looking back it was well played into the story.
It would be a 5 star except, I need a little more than just a follow up of the following summer and how they are moving forward
