When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi

5.0

My initial thought after reading this was, "I've never been this heartbroken before."

As I'm writing this review, I still can't grasp everything I felt about this book. This follows the story of a man who, in his last year of residency, was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. Yesterday he was the one giving the treatment, and the next, he was the one in need of it. From that point, everything that he, together with his wife, had planned for the future slowly became fragile and no longer existed.

Knowing that this book is a memoir of the author made this even more beautiful and painfully raw, yet powerful, at the same time.
