Interesting character study focused on grief. The main character, Louis Creed, really tested my patience and I wish we would have gotten more POVs in the beginning. I only warmed up to him later on when the book focused on his grief (and we were less exposed to his everyday opinions). At that point his inner monologues were fascinating as he kept slipping further into madness. Ironically, the further we got, the less scary the book felt. Especially towards the end, it felt like everything happened very fast with less suspense and more 'let's wrap this up'. I found the female characters to be pretty shallow and it felt like every single one was described based on her physical attributes (especially focusing on their boobs) while the male characters generally didn't have any physical descriptions. I have read King before but it has been a while so I'm not sure how much of this was just the POV of Louis Creed.  Church was the real star of the book! The Native American burial ground causing terror felt pretty old. No clue how overused this trope was when the book was published in the 80s. That being said - I flew through this book and I think I'll recognise a few pop culture references based on this book now. I'm definitely going to check out more of King's classic books in the future.

Sidenote: what's with the weird obsession on the cat's castration and how that links to masculinity? I think it was mentioned at least ten times....
