The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa

5.0

While I've seen several dystopian/zombie books/programs, this was the first dystopian/vampire combo I've been aware of ... and I liked it!

... I admit, I am a sucker (forgive the pun) for vampire stories, especially ones where we LIKE the vampire, as they themselves struggle to retain anything left of their humanity. That aspect is not new (Angel, Vampire Diaries, Moonlight, Blood Ties, TrueBlood and of course Twilight) ... all with the doomed "falling in love with a human" storyline too.

I liked that here it was the FEMALE who was the vampire, struggling not to become the monster she despised when she was human. Unlike the guys above, who have all been around for a while, she is very new to this experience. She still feels the pull to people (and not just to eat them!)and IF those dang humans COULD accept that she isn't the traditional BAD vampire, she could sure do a lot to help them out. But would she be able to stay "good"??? They don't know, SHE doesn't know (and you the reader don't know). Makes for a lot of action and angst.

From a DIGI standpoint (borrowed this from the library on my Kindle app), the text was NOT justified. I prefer justification, I like my spacing spaced out and even at the end. The jagged right side just bothered me the entire time I was reading. I couldn't see that I could adjust this in the settings anywhere (believe me I looked!)
