Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay
3.0
Once I stopped constantly thinking about if I agree or disagree with Gay's opinions and just tried to really listen and reflect on what she has to say, I got a lot out of her essays. I took my time reading this book and I'm glad I did - especially since her writing style was quite challenging for me at times.
I especially loved her critiques movies like "Django Unchained" or "The Help", that offered me a new perspective on Hollywood movies and the portrayal of people of colour that us as a viewer get confronted with. That being said, the heavy pop culture references throughout the essays made some parts difficult to understand since I haven't watched or read everything Gay talks about.
