Another wonderful read in this series. And I dare to say, this might have been the most fun and lighthearted sweetness, even with the stalker element.
I don't read that many superstar-bodyguard romances, so it is always nice o rediscover my love for them when I do pick one up.
Protecting Mr. Fine is about Zane, a famous singer, and Ryan, his bodyguard. Their sweet love story is special because they are friends first, admiring each other in their professional capacity and growing closer every minute. Partly because thee situation forces them together every day and partly because both of them are great and loving guys.
There is pining at the beginning, when none of them really know what to do with their feelings yet and how to navigate those feelings in a protector-protectee situation.
However, things intensify with Zane's stalker who gets close enough to stamp a mark on his body and sends threatening emails. Ryan's protective instincts, the one's coming for a long time of loving Zane from afar, kick intro overdrive and he sweeps Zane away from the public eye. And when the hectic life slows down a little, emotions fly high and they can't help but grow even closer.
The characters in this book are absolutely loveable.
Zane, is the sweetest, most modest superstar that ever existed on the planet, not even counting his billionaire status. He spends all his free time and money on charities and bettering the lives of everyone he can reach, giving them chances he never had as a kid from a broken home. However, his selflessness leads to not caring for himself enough, dubbing him Mr. Fine. A man who is always fine and don't need help from anyone. Which pisses Ryan off to no end.
Ryan is a big teddy bear. Which is why Zane gives him the nickname Bear. It's sweet and so so true. It all comes together with the podcast Zane listen's to: Bear Facts for Insomniacs.
Ryan's backstory is actually fascinating. He was a bodyguard for a royal family in a small country, but he could never be out as a gay man in the place with some backwards values. So, he changed things up and came home to the US to guard Zane. He never thought he could fall for a superstar, but Zane is nothing like some selfish celebrities. He's such a protective bear, spending all his time taking car of his honey.
Honestly, they are just so sweet together.
The spice was spicy in this book, but not too much (thankfully).
The stalker situation is constant but it is not the whole book and adds a little hint of excitement to the story.
Overall, I really enjoyed this one. The bear facts, the romance, the billionaire brotherhood. All of it comes together in the story. It makes a wonderfully relaxing and heartwarming read.
And to finish it off... I can't wait for Kenji and Landry's story.
