Diary of a Dying Girl by Mallory Smith

5.0

Diary of a Dying Girl by Mallory Smith is a YA adapted nonfiction from her best selling novel Salt in my Soul. An emotional read even knowing how the story would eventually end, starting in 2009 when Mallory is a multi-sport athlete who just happens to be battling cystic fibrosis and an antibiotic resistant superbug. From a bubbly, free spirit who is trying to find her path in this world to a transplant that should have saved her life, there is one thing I can say for sure about Mallory Smith: she lived her life every single day to the fullest. This novel doesn’t shy away from the hard stuff; from medical complications and the inner workings of her GI tract to juggling her social and dating life, Mallory bares it all. Including passages from her mom this one will leave you sobbing. Narrator Mara Wilson knocked it out of the park.
