Top 50 Kings And Queens by Terry Deary

informative lighthearted medium-paced

2.75

This was my 49th book finished in 2025.

This is not a top 50, but rather just a list of English monarchs (in order), with a couple left out here and there.

It was very basic and surface level information. In fact, space on every entry is taken up by a cringe "poem" about them.

HH already have a more thorough book detailing every English / British monarch, but admittedly the drawings and colours in this edition are much more pleasing.

Deary is back to his old ways, and just couldn't resist telling us how fat the Stuart queens were. Once again, he thinks this is the only piece of information we need to know about them - Mary big, William small, Anne buried in a square coffin, got it.

Also, why does it say Edward VII was the last king to sport a beard? Literally his son George V had a beard as well. I remember reading this in the other HH monarch book. Weird. Did Martin Brown not put two and two together when we drew his caricature and advised Deary?
