Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
3.0
To be honest, this book is not worth the hype, but is as terrible as people say?
No, I don't believe, sure men sneer at it but you know what, it's not even for them, its target audience is teenage girls. People need to stop teasing people for liking this book because we all have different beliefs. It may not be quality literature, it may be problematic but there are worse books out there like Den of Vipers and Kissing the Coronavirus. Heck, even the s*x scene in A Court of Frost and Starlight doesn't get as much hate as this book does. The selection isn't considered problematic when it literally encourages girls to hate girls.
Bella Swan is a character who can be pretty boring but to be honest, she didn't make me throw the book through a wall while reading, she's got flaws, more flaws than skills. I feel like the book is very long as well and the writing style can be bland at times. Edward calls her "Opposite of ordinary"
The author could have shortened the book by just changing that phrase to Extraordinary. This book has done a lot for the romance genre and even the vampire genre. Regardless of everything, it started a trend.
I can acknowledge how stupid the book is because Bella's reasoning for Edward being a Vampire goes like this:
1. Edward is pale.
2. Edward never eats.
3. Edward doesn't like the sun.
4. Edward is beautiful.
So of course she realises he is a vampire because her tiny brain cells went from 0 to 100 for the first time ever. There are so many other reasons for Edward being pale, he wears sunscreen and seriously, the sun burns when it's hot so I wouldn't go out anyway. Being beautiful doesn't automatically mean you're magical!
This book may have bizarre and stupid things but regardless, it gets far too much hate.
Am I saying I love this book, no, in fact it's one of my least favourite books, but I felt the need to say my thoughts, look at what I've written, I've bagged twilight so I'm not a fan obviously. I just feel like it doesn't need this much hate.
