This book is exactly what the phrase “fun romp” was created for: it’s good, lighthearted escapism. Having said that, it does touch on some difficult themes (loss of a loved one; slavery), and handles them well for the most part.

There’s a lot of action in this book, and I feel like the characterisation suffered a little for it - at times it felt a little like big, action set-pieces strung together; I would have liked for there to be a little more focus on the development of Fallon and Cinnamon’s relationships in those quiet parts.

Overall, though, I had a great time reading this book, and would definitely seek out more from this author.
