Never Say Die by Tess Gerritsen
4.0
This is my first book by the author and I really enjoyed it. I love romantic suspense where the mystery/suspense/thriller aspect is just as immersive and complex as the romance.
This is also the first book I can remember where the Vietnam War took such a prominent role. It made for a lot of new and interesting information about the countries and era for me. Not exactly enemies, but Guy and Willie were definitely at odds with each other for quite a bit of the book. Willie only begrudgingly works with Guy to try to determine what happened to her father while he has his own motives.
I enjoyed the action and mystery aspect - uncovering what happened 20 years ago and how it’s still stretching into the present (present in that this book was written in the 90s). Lots of running for their lives and not knowing who can be trusted. The pacing was terrific.
The ending and big reveals were great. Loved the last epiloguish chapter.
Narration:
I chose this specifically because it’s narrated by Amy McFadden. As usual, she’s great with all the accents, emotions, pacing, and giving a huge cast of characters unique voices and personalities. Fantastic listen.
