Another entry into the “I simply could never be a mother!” genre, it is weird that I read so many books about motherhood when the closest I will ever be to it is having a dog. I thought this was well done, the use of second-person to talk to her son was interesting and made the challenges the narrator grapples with more nuanced. I particularly loved the theme of identity and how she often felt not wholly herself, that she left a bit of herself behind but equally bore a new self with the birth of her child. It sometimes felt a bit repetitive (yeah, I get it, dudes suck, what’s new!) but the end brought everything together to say something more complex.
