Didn't think it was possible, but every time I pick up this series I just fall in love with it more. So good to be back!!

2nd read: 5 stars!

Just as great the second time around! Loved diving back into Epheria <3
I listened to the audiobook which made it a super immersive experience, the narrator is fantastic - definitely recommend.

1st read: 5 stars!

What an amazing debut and fantastic first book in The Bound and The Broken series.

The cover of Of Blood and Fire is definitely what caught my attention the first time I saw this book. I immediately had a feeling I would like this one, so when I saw that signed hardback copies were up for pre-order from the author I couldn’t help myself and ordered one right away (something I had never done before ^^). And man, am I glad I did!!

Getting lost in this mystical world was just what I needed. I love a classic fantasy story and I very much enjoy tropes like “the chosen one” and “the reluctant hero” - all these classical elements can be found here. The characters were well fleshed out and had a great dynamic, and their banter was very entertaining. I connected to Calen, Rist, and Dann right away and loved following their adventures. Although Calen is the main protagonist, Rist and Dann have their own little arcs and growth to go through - I am very intrigued to see where all this is going. And you can always get me with animal companions, especially dragons and wolves. I hope we will see a LOT more of Faenir and Valerys in the upcoming books!!

The pacing was great. It started a bit slow, but I was never bored and I actually liked being introduced to the elements of this world bit by bit. I was learning and experiencing everything with the characters. The world was gradually growing bigger with new characters, places, races, and an interesting magic system being added as the story went along. I could picture everything easily in my mind and just loved the atmosphere Ryan Cahill created here.

Of Blood and Fire is a wonderful introduction to the fun cast of characters and magical world of Epheria. It is a solid foundation on which I’m sure the author will build and expand upon in Of Darkness and Light. I’m very much looking forward to the sequel which, thankfully, is coming out soon. In the meantime I’ll be happily devouring the prequel novella The Fall (available for free online, but I also have a signed hardcover edition coming soon ^^).
