The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

5.0

Strarr, an African American girl, swaps between two very different worlds. The poor neighborhood where she lives and the richer, better off school where she spends her week days. When she escapes a party with her childhood best friend a police officer pulls them over, and Kahil, her friend, is killed unfairly. The story follows her struggle through riots and lawsuits.

This book was outstanding. It portrayed the situation perfectly. I have never read a book with this type of issue, but as soon as I picked it up I could tell it was perfect. I Fell in love with the characters and their stories. I loved how accurately the writing portrayed the characters. It was very heart wrenching too. It really told the story of a heartbreaking time, in a heartbreaking manner.
