Yes, My Accent Is Real: and Some Other Things I Haven't Told You by Kunal Nayyar

5.0

I expected this to be a book full of anekdotes and behind-the-scenes stories of one of my all-time favorite sitcoms: The Big Bang Theory. After all, actor Kunal Nayyar rose to stardom as the socially awkward astrophysicist Raj Koothrappali in this hilarious, geeky series for 12 seasons.

However, there are only a few lines in this book about his time on the popular TV-show. Instead, Kunal shares a wide variety of stories and anekdotes about his life, his Indian background, his experiences as a foreign student, his early auditions, his family and his 'big fat Indian wedding'. All of them written in a funny and lighthearted style, very reminiscent of the personality and humor of the character he played in the Big Bang Theory.

Actors are known for their ability to portray people that are very different from who they are themselves. In this case, it seems that the writers of the Big Bang Theory deliberaretely integrated more and more of Nayyar's own personality and humor into the character of Raj.

This was a great read and I have but one request for the author: please write another book, this time about your experiences on the set and behind the scenes of The Big Bang Theory. I'm sure most readers of this book would love to read that book as well!
