Pure: Inside the Evangelical Movement That Shamed a Generation of Young Women and How I Broke Free by Linda Kay Klein
5.0
This book is really important to engage with regardless of background, but will probably hit extremely close to home if you grew up in or in proximity to evangelical spaces as a woman or were raised as a woman. This book can be very informative, jarring, cathartic, all of the above. I was really glad to read about some of the really inclusive spaces that Klein included at the end, and am thankful for her willingness to create something like this and for the vulnerability of all the women who shared their stories and experiences. I recommend, but you’ll likely be doing a lot of doing a lot of gasping, pacing around, or if you’re like me making a lot of shocked faces and then calling your best friend to rant about it. Definitely would issues a content warning as some of the chapters had the potential to be extremely triggering depending on experience.
