Insurgent by Veronica Roth

5.0

I finished Divergent about two months ago (I immediately put this on hold at the library and it took this long to get it). It was pretty easy to slip back into the story. Even though this book is 500+ pages, it was a super fast read. I kept surprising myself, looking down at my progress and realizing how far I was. I was totally caught off guard today when it wrapped up. The "twist" at the end was not entirely unexpected (I had my suspicions), and I'm really looking forward to the next book in the series to find out more. I wish I didn't have to wait.

In the Hunger Games series, I didn't really care for the final book, when it moved from the games to the revolution. I was afraid I might feel that way here, as the focus shifted from Dauntless training to the upheaval of the factions - but I quickly got sucked into this story too.

I don't know that I noticed it in the first book, but I did realize here this was written in the present tense, the action is happening AS you read. I've been noticing this tense more and more lately (I don't know if it is becoming more popular, or if I'm just NOTICING it more ... Divergent was also written in the present tense).

Divergent/Insurgent ... sticking at the top of my list of recent favorites!
