The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett

5.0

I would go as far as to call The Vanishing Half the most beloved book of 2020 so I won’t repeat much of the plot - the premise of twin sisters who are officially black but light skinned enough to get by as white choosing different life paths feels almost iconic already. To be honest I don’t think I have much to say that hasn’t been said before. I just love The Vanishing Half as much as everyone else does and thinking back on all the feelings the story evoked in me, it seems insane that it’s only 340 pages long! Brit Bennet touches on so many issues relating to race and sexuality and class, yet it never feels crammed. I don’t know how she does it.
