I really am happy I decided to take the plunge and buy these books, what a solid start to a fantasy series

This is YA that has all the familiar tropes but they’re reworked in a way that they feels fresh. The best part about this is that it still managed to give me all those nostalgic feels that you’d find with your classic YA adventure which I love

I enjoyed following the developing relationship between the main character and his newly hatched dragon companion. Their relationship felt natural and you felt the connection grow as the story progresses. The side characters were also great to follow, they didn’t really feel like side characters as they held importance to the story meaning they were all a great addition

The magic system is linked to the dragons and not only did it add extra elements to the system but also emphasised the importance of dragons rather than them just existing in the world. I thought it was well paced for the most part with the characters finding themselves in different situations and meeting new people on their adventure

Although it’s YA it definitely had an epic feel to it and I think both YA and adult fantasy readers would find it hard not to enjoy, on to book 2!
