This was my first book by Jewel E. Ann and it was such a sweet and heartwarming story. First this story is set in the late 80’s and each chapter is the name of a song which fit the theme of the chapter. I found myself humming the songs in my head as I read since 80’s music is my favorite it brings back lots of good memories. Sarah is a preacher’s daughter and as such she has a good grasp on good and bad and deems certain people as satan (namely Isaac). Sarah has just graduated from high school and she desperately wants to go to Nashville to write, sing and perform. Her father doesn’t like that type of music he feels it’s immoral. He would like her to stay in their small town and marry her boyfriend Matt. But, Matt is about to leave for college because he has aspirations of being a baseball star. They have agreed to split up and go their separate ways after summer. But, there are some unfortunate circumstances that have to be addressed. Sarah’s family lives on Matt’s family’s land and they pay rent and not always on time. And Sarah has witnessed something that if exposed with affect both her and Matt’s family. In the midst of all this Issac, Matt’s older brother is home from the army and he is challenging Sarah’s (Sunday Morning as he calls her) beliefs about life, and her relationship with Matt. She is drawn to him and especially since he has a guitar that she really wants to play to help her create music she finds herself seeking him out and as she does she begins to question everything. I enjoyed this story immensely about a young girl figuring out who she is and what she wants and the challenges of living up to others expectations or doing what’s best for yourself.
