Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater

it’s not a perfect five stars but it does its job well.

It's probably my fault for restarting the Vampire Diaries on the exact day that I picked this book up (as unrelated events) but this book felt very vampire-diaries-y to me. In that both this book and tvd are Staples of the Genre (Paranormal Teenage Romance, ahh those were the days) and that the job it does well is To Make Werewolves Sexy, something that is attempted by only the bravest of all Genre Writers.
The world is unfolded in a really neat way and has a ingenious mythology that would be interesting to learn more about. Maggie's writing is, as always, beautiful. The romance was silly and Genre Typical. Sam is the sweetest and the rest of his pack and his relationship to them (and also himself and his humanity) is Worth Something.
I'm concerned about how much Grace reminds me of Blue, and how bland the ladies feel to me in this book. Again, my fault because I love the Vampire Diaries, but Rachel = Caroline Forbes.
