Elizabeth of East Hampton by Emily Harding, Audrey Bellezza

4.0

I love the original Pride and Prejudice, so I was immediately sold on the modern retelling of Jane Austen’s classic. The story follows Elizabeth Bennet, who runs her family's bakery in East Hampton while dreaming of a journalism degree at Columbia. Her graduate school plans are sidelined by her father’s illness, but she remains the responsible one in her quirky and dysfunctional family. Enter Will Darcy, a wealthy New Yorker, who is spending summer weekends at his friend/business partner, Charles Pierce, beachside summer rental. The two meet at Bennet Bakery and immediately start on the wrong foot. The authors’ modern take on the classic is refreshing, turning beloved characters into relatable timely characters. This can be read as a standalone, but is the second book in the series. This was the first book I read Bellezza and Harding and I loved it. I will definitely be going back to read the first book in the For Love of Austen series, Emma of 83rd Street.
