The School of Essential Ingredients by Erica Bauermeister

Delicious. That's what this book brings to mind.

I was assigned to read this book for a writing class, and for half the semester, I didn't really touch it. Deceiving title and cover. I thought it was a cookbook of some sort. Then one day, while waiting for my next class, I finally did peruse it. Oh boy, was I in for a treat.

This is a well-thought out book. The recipes that the characters do somehow relate to what they are experiencing in life. It's not very dramatic, and makes for casual light reading. I enjoyed it.

However, it has been a few years since I last read the book and since I already sold it, I can't reread it again to see what it was like. Besides delicious, I don't remember much detail, which probably speaks for the book's lasting impression on me: it's not quite memorable.
