The Harpy by Megan Hunter
4.0
Uneasy but unputdownable
I first saw this book reviewed on social media and the reviewer had said it was a lot darker and more sinister than she had expected. I was immediately interested.
Exploring the ideas of grief within a marriage can be hard but Hunter has managed to expertly create a narrator for whom the grief is real and raw and there. Yes, there are elements where a restart could do with a strong stomach - it can get a bit graphic at points. But do can greif.
The narrative flows and the links between narrator and the titular Harpy are well constructed and clear, as the novel progresses.
I really enjoyed this book. Its not for everyone and there are definitely some Trigger Warnings needed but I lapped it up. Very interested to read more of Hunter's work, now.
