And Every Morning the Way Home Gets Longer and Longer by Fredrik Backman
5.0
Fredrik Backman always finds a way to take my breath away...
although this novella isn't even 100 pages long I really loved it. it made me laugh at some parts and made me tear up at others.
I think Fredrik has a beautiful way of writing about elders and their relationships with their grandchildren.
I loved how it was tangled between the present and the past and sometimes we would have to read a few lines to know where exactly were we as it makes it a realistic representation of what the grandpa was actually dealing with.
The parts were he was talking to his wife and his love for her made my heart melt. it made me want that kind of relationship. he used to tease her and she used to drive him mad but you could feel the strong love connection between them.
Seeing the guilt he was going through with his son Ted because he wasn't there enough for his childhood was heartbreaking and knowing that he can't go back in time to fix everything made it even harder to bear. it made me realize that this is what most parents go through and that's why they try to make it up to their children by being there for their grandchildren.
