The Shadowed Sun by N.K. Jemisin

5.0

This doesn't feel like QUITE a full 5⭐s, but it's definitely somewhere around a 4.5, so we're going with it. I am obsessed with where this story went. Similar to the Books of Ambha series, this second installment took place 10 years after the first and only follows one character from that book. While the Egyptian influence is still very present, Jemisin wove in an Anasazi/Native American thread that was *chef's kiss*. Hanani is my badass healer queen and her character arc is everything. I won't lie, Wanahomen grew on me, too.
