Becoming Bulletproof: Protect Yourself, Read People, Influence Situations, and Live Fearlessly by Evy Poumpouras
3.0
The vast majority of this book is just basic common sense kind of stuff. However, since the book makes various references on how to survive school shooters, it’s obviously targeted toward an American market. Due to the fact that sense is not that common in the U.S., I guess the author can be forgiven for that.
The other aspect that makes me believe this is almost exclusively tailored for the U.S. market is the opening chapter detailing Poumpouras’ experience of 9/11. While it is unarguably an enthralling introduction, it has very little to do with the remainder of the book. It was clearly written to inspire red, white and blue blooded Americans to shout a hearty “‘MURICA!!!” at the top of their lungs.
Some may argue it is a relevant introduction to illustrate how unprepared for this extraordinary event Poumpouras was and how she would vow to become bulletproof and never look back... but let’s be honest, this is pretentious and clumsily disguised patriotic bullshit. It’s not a superhero origin story, it’s an attempt to pluck on redneck heart strings.
