The Silent Night: A Sleeping Beauty Retelling by Sarah Beran, Sarah Beran
5.0
What happens when Sleeping Beauty falls in love with Saint Nic? This story is absolute genius levels of perfection. From the dozens of nods to elements of the known and loved Sleeping Beauty story to perfectly reimagined Santa elements, all the way down to the parliament and their parts of speech names that completely delighted my nerdy little soul. The dog sled especially made me happy because I grew up where that was an important cultural element and it made my day to see it.
If I didn’t already love it for the whit and absolute steely resilience that Holly possesses, and the warm, caring creativity of Nic, the letter writing and the mystery of the story would have sealed the deal. And that moment the curse was ended? It was exactly what I hoped for— but what I didn’t see coming was what exactly How was.
Brilliantly executed story that’s perfect for lovers of fairytales and Christmas time.
