Out of the Wild by Jessica Walker

adventurous emotional medium-paced

3.0

The synopsis of the book sounded promising. I really like books/shows/movies about surviving after a disaster of any kind. So, when I’m promised a book that mixes that with romance, I’m a goner.

I enjoyed the first two thirds of the book. I found the pacing interesting and the stakes of why Cade and Lena decided to leave the group important. I also enjoyed the insight into Lena’s mind, as she struggles with thoughts that most young adults have, but which she has to stop herself from having because of the dynamics of the survivor group she belongs to.

However, I found that the last third of the book moved too quickly. I felt that some of my questions were left unanswered. I also think I would have liked an epilogue that projected a bit into the future to find out what happened ‘after’. The ending was perhaps too abrupt for me.
