Have you ever had a book that utterly surprised you? I wasn't expecting to enjoy Splinters of Scarlet (historical fantasy mystery didn't really pique my interests) but this was, hands down, the most fun I've ever had reading a book.
Emily @MainStreetBooksStCharles described this book perfectly as "Frozen meets Downton Abbey". Set in nineteenth-century Denmark, an orphaned seamstress (with magical abilities) watches as her friend-turned-little-sister is adopted by a retired ballerina. Marit must be careful with her magic; every use leaves behind a deadly, ice-like build-up within her veins called the Firn. But she's willing to sacrifice herself to keep Eve safe... and to uncover the secrets hidden by Eve's new family...
This book was lovely, it was stressful, it was shocking, it was full of heart. I loved how unique the plot was, I LOVED the found family, I loved the adorable swoony romance scene, I loved the ending. I audibly gasped at several parts and found myself shouting at the characters while reading it, which we all know is the sign of a fantastic book. 10/10 would recommend.
