Islam, History and Other Observations by Alija Izetbegović
5.0
"Islam, in its entirety, sometimes seems to me to be a request upon man to stick to his nature, without trying to be an angel because he cannot be one, nor to lower him self to the animal, because he must not be one."
This was quite interesting throughout. The stuff on Islam and history especially.
I think Alija Izetbegović was a great intellectual and revolutionary, whenever I come across these minds I feel I need to analyse them and their words, demeanour, behaviour, and everything to try and learn more.
He speaks about the decline of Muslim civilisation, the disease of nationalism, his qualms with forms of Sufism, the benefits he sees in certain acts of worship, and a lot more.
Don't agree with everything he said but I see he held a perspective that was and still is odd because it doesn't exist with balance. Not saying he has the perfect balance but as he emphasises, man errs and was not sent to be an angel. May Allah forgive him and bring forth strong proponents of orthodox Islam, for the sake of our nation's preservation!
