I found this author on social media and thought the book sounded cool so I wanted to give it a shot to support a new author. And I just can't. The beginning relies too much on cliches and coincidences for me to get into story. It's very possible that it ultimately ends up breaking these cliches and doing something new them, but I wasn't able to get far enough into the book to tell. The characters may be very likeable, but there's nothing about them in their introductions that encourages me to stick around long enough to find out. I'd love to try harder but there are just too many books in the world to read and this one didn't do enough to pull me in and convince me that I should stick it out.
