Silver Sparrow by Tayari Jones

That does it, Tayari Jones is a legend. Her writing is some of the most beautiful I have ever read. Both of the books I have read by her, this one and An American Marriage, have taken fairly uncommon storylines (although in the case of AAM, more common than you'd think) and made them startingly real to the reader. Simultaneously, the stories reveal poignant truths about being Black in America, especially the south (Atlanta, GA). All wrapped up in writing that sucks you in so hard you don't want to put the book down. So glad I branched into contemporary so that I could experience Ms. Jones' work.
