City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert

This book embraces the beauty of a messy life, unfortunately that also makes the story a little messy... There are many incredibly beautiful passages, there are also a good deal of and meandering parts.

I don't think the setup of being a letter to the daughter of a man she once knew works for a good deal of the story. She is telling her entire life and not what the daughter was asking, so sometimes the premise stretches thin. Why would a woman she met once want to know about her sex life? Why would she want to know about the ex fiance she never loved? I feel the story could've been more condensed to be more poignant. A memoir and not a biography, y'know
