Me Before You by Jojo Moyes
3.0
Me Before You Notes: NON-SPOILER:
* not exactly how I would write a male character
* desperation to get a job wasn't really there. It was very meh but she has the missing a job down very well
* Not a book for teenagers. More adult definitely and a tiny bit damaging really.
* Good family writing with the banter, helping one self and conversations
* Do Australians really go Mrs and Mr T?
* It's quite a fast book, definitely one you can read in a weekend or a holiday away.
* No one really swears, they all say bloody which made it sound like it was meant to get the age rating down but this book shouldn't be read by anyone under 15 in my opinion and they should be in the right mindset.
* Contains suicide mentions, euthanasia and depression
* Spoke little about marriages but wrote them well
* Glad they cut out certain lines that didn't quite make sense in the film along with certain characters
* Literally kiss my ass to the families: you will survive without having to be put through hard jobs
* Grumpy arsehole
* Okay maybe not. Grumpy arsehole with cute moments, like sending little letters to her. :3
* Patrick was typical jealous cliche. And I disliked it but it was good because otherwise I would have felt sorry for him
* Boys are mean. I prefer lesibans sometimes, I really do.
* Okay they're getting cute and more trusting and I can scream knowing they are somewhat right for each other as they communicate well.
* I am alright. I didn't cry at the ending.
Me Before You Notes: SPOILER
* Wrote the traffic scene as it would have happened in reality but less dramatic as they had it in the film which I feel like that part needed because it's intense
* Damaging views for disabled people and not worth living
* Realistically she would not have got the job but hey that's why they call it fiction
* THEY KEPT SO TRUE TO THE BOOK AND JUST MADE IT BETTER WRITING WISE
* He very suddenly changed into happy man with Louisa with slightly irritated me. It wasn't like the argument was a big shock, it was just like now I have done a 180 character development.
* Least favourite character was the Mum - calm the hell down - the film made me like her and dislike the father more.
* Georgina seems a little over dramatic. Not that her brother wants to die but that it will ruin their reputations and religion
* I liked the mother's chapter - really gruesome and made me feel uneasy but felt like a true mother's monologue. Thought that the cheating dad bit was a tiny cliche they could have left out.
* Treena is not a genius, Treena is a dick.
* It took me a while to get past the cringing of the horse racing incidents and when I did finally read it, I just was annoyed at how Will was so rude to her even though he knew she had to do tons to even get him back into the van.
* More cringe at the family dinner. I wasn't dealing well with.
* WILL STOP FUCKING MAKING LOU DO THINGS THAT END UP HURTING HER! YOU COULD HAVE JUST ASKED WHY SHE DIDN'T WANT TO GO IN THE FLIPPING MAZE!
* Sexual harassment happens and thank you for showing not everyone gets over it even in ten years.
* Patrick is so right but at the same time so wrong. Like he is dying what the fuck?!?! But at the same time she is so falling for him!!! GAAAAH!
